SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE
At YMCA John Island Camp, we offer a wide range of programs that will suit the needs of any camper. If you are a first time camper and you just want to get your feet wet, check out our specialized 4 night Little Guys and Gals program or our 5 night Adventure Camp. Feeling like more time is needed at camp? Our most traditional camp, our two week Youth Camp, offers experienced campers the chance to go on out trips and utilize all areas of camp. 15 or 16 years of age and looking for a one of a kind leadership opportunity? Our Greenway and Norquay program train and give the skill set to our participants to become leaders both at camp and in their communities. Little Guys and Gals: 6-10 yrs For the littlest of the little, and the newest of the new, we offer a very unique and specialized 5 day (4 night) program for campers age 6-10. This program is a perfect introduction to an overnight camp and some of the activities appropriate for this age group. Staff members are specifically trained to meet the sensitive needs of this group and ensure that at everypoint during their stay campers feel safe and happy Adventure Camp: 8-12 yrs Similar to our two week Youth Camp Session, Adventure Camp participants will be able to experience camp over the course of 6 days, 5 nights. They will be able to develop skills in most areas of camp and will spend quality time with their cabin mates on a daily basis. Led by two highly qualified counsellors, this week is the perfect transition from Little Guys and Gals into the Youth Camp Session. Youth Camp: 8-14 yrs With a lenght of stay greater than that of the Adventure Camp, Youth Camp participants will be able to experience EVERYTHING that John Island has to offer during their 12 night stay. Youth Camp participants will have two weeks to perfect individual skills along with the opportunity to go on an outtrip. Outtrip length and location will vary based on age.
Sea Kayaking: 12-14 yrs For the adventurous camper that is looking for the "out of camp" experience, this is it! This 10 day Sea Kayak trip departs from the beaches of John Island Camp and travel along the shores of the North Channel. After passing by the La Cloche mountain range, this trip finishes off in Killarney National Park. Windsurf and Sail: 10-14 yrs Windsurf and Sail Camp is a 6 day specialty program for campers who want to focus specifically on developing advanced skills in Windsurfing and Sailing. They will predominantly focus their time in these areas, but will also experience all the other areas that John Island has to offer. Leadership Development: 15-16yrs Leadership development programs are offered for the oldest campers (15 and 16 year olds). They are the longest programs offered at YMCA John Island Camp. Outtriping is a large component of these programs and they travel throughout Northern Ontario, Quebec, and Manitoba in remote wilderness areas. The programs are led by older, experienced and skilled staff members who have extensive training in outdoor skills and leadership.
SPECIALTY PROGRAMS Women's Wellness Weekend - Friday June 11th - Sunday June 13th, 2010Women from all over Sudbury and beyond will be getting together to take part in a relaxing, self-indulgent, fun-filled weekend in the most magnificent location in the North Channel of Lake Huron. The Women's Wellness Weekend offers a variety of outdoor pursuits, crafts workshops, aesthetics and massage services, entertainment and satisfying culinary delights. Every year the ever popular massage therapists, aestheticians, dance instructors, and creatively unique artists return to provide high quality programs and services. For many years, YMCA John Island Camp has been pleased to offer a special week each summer just for families. The program includes all of the fun activities that YMCA John Island Camp is famous for: swimming, sailing, arts and crafts, rock climbing, windsurfing, low and high ropes courses, hiking, canoeing... There are daily programs for different age groups (adults too!), open waterfront programs, games, campfire, skit nights, and overnight camping trips. Families can participate in organized activities or relax and play on their own.
